Discovering the Rural Olympics of Punjab: Kila Riapur 2015

The state of Punjab is all about doing things lavishly, whether it is the famous Punjabi wedding or the quirky and unconventional Kila Raipur sports, renowned as the “Rural Olympics”. The whole unusual sports extravaganza held annually from 31st Jan till 2nd Feb at a small village, just 20 Kilometres from the small from Ludhiana. The event which started as a recreational congregation of farmers in the year 1993 has now developed into the full sporting event. The event is one of the major highlights of my Punjab holiday packages. The event is opened to all the villages from all over the India.

What makes the event even more special is the types of sports which is being played. From normally played games to the peculiar rural sports like Kabaddi, Kho Kho, Bull Cart Racing, Camel and Horse dancing the sight of every game is just amazing. I had never thought that holidaying in Punjab and experiencing the Kila Raipur game will be so thrilling. The thrilling and jaw-dropping performances of acrobatics and display of martial art by the Sikh Nihang groups was spectacular and daring. After getting the taste of the best holiday in Punjab now heading west southern region of India for enjoying the Maharashtra holiday package.
